Both proper heat application and temperature measurement are important. The non heat treatable aluminum alloys may be torch annealed many times to achieve the necessary shape. Any involved forming can lead to cracking or fatiguing the material but annealing can reduce these problems. In zone refined aluminum this reversion may take place at room temperature.

You can see that welding clamps were also used for tight short bends. Fairings and fillets in particular require such heavy working and such great changes in shape that frequent annealings are quite necessary. Easy to form pure 1100 aluminum sheets and bars because 1100 aluminum is 99 pure it offers superior formability corrosion resistance and electrical conductivity. The distorted dislocated structure resulting from cold working of aluminum is less stable than the strain free annealed state to which it tends to revert.

Avoid machining aluminum in its annealed state it s really sticky and it doesn t cut cleanly any more.
